For those that like a bit of culture and history…

Exeter has a beautiful Cathedral in the city centre, and we recommend visiting while you stay here in Exeter. Immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring beauty of one of Europe’s most magnificent cathedrals and find endless opportunities to explore it’s amazing architecture, clandestine corners and hidden histories.

A visit to Exeter’s Underground Passages is a unique experience, dating from 14th century, these medieval passages under Exeter High Street are a ancient monument: no similar system of passages can be explored by the public elsewhere in Britain.

Exeter Redcoats offers free guided walking tours of the city giving an insight into the varied history of Exeter.

On the outskirts of Exeter are two historic National Trust properties to visit, Killerton House https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/devon/killerton and Castle Drogo https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/devon/castle-drogo, from Castle Drogo there is a lovely (although slightly steep) walk to Fingle bridge where you will find a traditional English pub serving food and drinks on the banks of the River Teign. Both are best accessed via car.

For those that like to explore…

Topsham is a short train or bus ride from Exeter and is quaint historic estuary port with some lovely shops and an excellent selection of traditional pubs and interesting restaurants. https://www.visitexeter.com/things-to-do/visit-topsham

A short distance from Exeter is the beautiful Devon coastline and beaches. The nearest beaches to Exeter are located at Exmouth and Dawlish Warren, both around 10 miles away and are easily accessible by bus, train, bike, or car.

From Exeter quayside you will find Saddles and Paddles which offer hire of bikes, canoes, kayaks, and Stand-Up Paddleboards to explore the area:

Dartmoor National Park has beautiful moorlands and deep river valleys, with a rich history and rare wildlife and is a unique place to visit.

Dartmoor is best accessed via car (approx.. 30mins) or there is a train service to Okehampton which runs 7 days a week.
